GP Systems of Choice (GPSoC)
Changing system
If you want to change system, the decision will usually be made at
around the time that GP IT bids are evaluated, so that all calls on the
GP IT budget can be evaluated. However you should start to follow
the process as soon as your practice decides to change, and let AIMTC IT
Services know that you wish to make this decision. AIMTC can help you
with the change process. If your need to change is urgent then AIMTC may
be able to fund the bid sooner.
All practices wishing to change system must prepare a business case to
support their bid for funding some or all of the migration and ongoing
costs from the PCT and NHS Connecting for Health - see 'AIMTC Business
case template.doc'.
The practice must then evaluate the GP clinical systems available under
GPSoC, initially on paper, and then invite their shortlisted suppliers
to demonstrate their systems 'on site' - in house and hosted solutions
should be considered. The process of changing system is described in the
GPSoC website, and the local process is described in detail in 'Guidance
for practices wishing to change clinical system'. The process is
designed to ensure that practices comply with current procurement
legislation.
